Crossed Stockinette Stitch Pattern:

    Row 1: EWK all pegs
    Row 2: FK all pegs

I-Cord:

CO two sts (or desired number) using EW method. Pass WY behind stitches just cast on back to the beginning. Holding yarn in front of the pegs, FK each st.
Continue each row by passing yarn behind sts and knitting off. As you work you will see a tight tube being formed. To end, move lp on peg 2 to peg 1 and knit off. Cut yarn leaving a 6 in (15 cm) tail and draw through last loop. Fasten off and weave end into center of tube.

Gauge:

10 stitches in crossed stockinette stitches worked over 16 rows measures 4" (10 cm) square. Take time to check gauge.

Directions: Hat

With two strands of A, CO using EW method.
Work one round FK then work Crossed Stockinette Stitch Pattern until hat measures 7" (19 cm) or desired height.
Shift the lps on all the odd pegs to the adjacent even peg. (i.e., shift peg-1 lp to peg-2, shift peg-3 lp to peg-4, etc.) until all odd-numbered pegs are empty and all even numbered pegs have two lps each. With the WY sl the odd pegs, FK two lps over one lp on all even pegs.
Work a gathered BO as follows:
    • Cut the working yarn leaving approximately 24" (61 cm) yarn tail.
    • Thread the yarn onto a yarn needle.
    • Starting with peg-2, insert the needle below the lp and pull the yarn though.
    • Insert the needle below the lps on the next even numbered peg and rep the previous step on all remaining pegs with lps and once more into the beg lp on peg-2.
    • Remove the lps from the pegs, turn the hat inside out and pull the yarn tail until the opening is completely closed.
Secure the opening by stitching back and forth then tying a knot with the yarn tail.
Fasten, trim and secure all yarn tails.

Directions: Ears

Using two strands of A, and 8 pegs, work an adjustable CO as follows:
    • Slip knot beginning yarn tail to anchor peg leaving an approximate 10" (25 cm) beginning yarn tail (this will be used later to seam the ear to the head).
    • Using pegs 1-8 on the round loom, weave the yarn in front of the odd numbered pegs (1, 3, 5, 7) and behind the even numbered pegs (2, 4, 6, 8).
    • Complete the adjustable CO, by turning on peg-8 and laying the WY above the strand of yarn on the peg-7; knit the bottom stand over the top WY strand.
    • Pass the WY in front of peg-6 (YO).
    • Cont knitting the bottom strand over the top strand on all odd pegs and do a YO on all even pegs to complete the adjustable CO.
Rows 1-2: Sl first peg and FK 7 remaining pegs.
Row 3: Sl 1; P 6 pegs; FK last peg.
    Row 4: Sl 1; FK 7 pegs.
    Rows 5, 7, 9, 11: Rep Row 3.
    Rows 6, 8, 10: Rep Row 4.
    Beg decreases as follows:
Row 12: Shift the lps on the two end pegs on both sides over one toward the middle; lps are now on 6 pegs. Sl 1 peg; FK 5 pegs, knitting two over one on the next-to-last peg on each end.
    Row 13: Sl 1 peg, P 4 pegs; FK 1 peg.
Row 14: Shift the lps on the two end pegs on both sides over one toward the middle; lps are now on 4 pegs. Sl 1 peg, FK 3, knitting two over one on the next-to-last peg on each end.
    Row 15: Sl 1 peg; P 2 pegs, FK 1 peg.
Row 16: Shift the lps on the end pegs of both sides over one toward the middle; lps are now on 2 pegs. Sl 1 peg, FK two lps over one lp on the other peg.
Row 17: Sl 1 peg, FK two loops over one lp on the other peg.
Row 18: Move the last lp knitted over to the remaining peg; wrap and knit two lps over on lp. Wrap and knit the last lp once more. Fasten, trim and secure the ending yarn tail.

Finishing the ears

Using the beginning yarn tail, cinch the adjustable CO edge until the base of the ear is about 1" (2.5 cm) wide and tie a knot to secure. Position and pin the base of the ears about 2" (5 cm) apart on top of the pig's head. Thread the beginning yarn tail onto the yarn needle and stitch the ears in place. Push the needle to the underside of the hat; secure and trim the yarn tail.

Directions: Nose

With two strands of A, CO using the adjustable cast on method as follows:
    • Slip knot beginning yarn tail to anchor peg leaving an approximate 10" (25 cm) beginning yarn tail (this will be used later on to seam the nose along the sides).
    • Using pegs 1-12 on the round loom, weave the yarn in front of the odd numbered pegs (1, 3, 5, 7, 9 & 11) and behind the even numbered pegs (2, 4, 6, 8, 10 & 12)
    • Complete the adjustable CO, by turning on peg-12 and laying the WY above the strand of yarn on the peg-11; knit the bottom strand over the top WY strand.
    • Pass the WY in front of peg-10 (YO).
    • Cont knitting the bottom strand over the top strand on all odd pegs and do a YO on all even pegs to complete the adjustable CO.
Rows 1-3: FK all 12 pegs.
    Row 4: P all 12 pegs.
Row 5: FK all 12 pegs.
    Row 6: P all 12 pegs.
Rows 7-9: FK all 12 pegs.
BO using gathered method; remove lps from the pegs, but do not gather the BO edge yet. Using the beginning yarn tail, cinch the adjustable CO edge as tightly as possible and secure. Thread the beginning yarn tail onto a yarn needle and seam the sides together up to the BO edge. Gather the BO edge. Fasten, trim and secure all yarn tails.

Finishing the nose

Embroider two parallel sts to indicate nostrils with a black yarn/floss as shown in photo. Mark center front of hat and place nose approximately 1.25" (3 cm) above bottom edge of hat; pin and stitch in place.

Directions: Eyes (Make 2 in color B)

With one strand of B, CO using the adjustable cast on method as described for the nose. Be sure to allow for an extra long beginning yarn tail, which will be used later for seaming.
Rows 1-3: FK all 12 pegs.
Work a double BO as follows:
    • EWK the first two pegs; shift the lp from the second peg to the first peg and knit the bottom lp over the top lp; shift the st back to the second peg.
    • *Cont BO by EWK the current peg and the next peg; shift the lp from the second peg to the first peg; knit bottom lp over the top lp and shift back to the second peg. Rep from * until all pegs have been knitted off. Cut leaving an extra long yarn tail for seaming the eye patch to the hat.
    • Using the beginning yarn tail, cinch the adjustable CO edge as tightly as possible. Secure the beginning yarn tail on the wrong side. Thread the yarn tail onto a yarn needle and seam the sides on the wrong side; tie off and trim.

Finishing the Eyes

Using the photo for reference, position the eye rings just above and on either side of the nose; pin and stitch in place using the ending yarn tail and a yarn needle. Cut two one inch circles of black felt. Stitch circles to center of each eye ring.
