Use this colorful tote to haul both groceries and crafting projects alike! This bag works up in a hurry, using simple single crochet and half double crochet stitches.

14.5 hdc and 11 rows = 4" x 4" square in half double crochet 4 sc and 19 rows = 4" x 4" square in single crochet Save time by checking your gauge. Adjust hook size ?to achieve specified gauge.

BAG BOTTOM
With CA, ch 42.
Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc across. (40 sc)
Rows 2-5: ch 1, sc across. Fasten off.
Change color, working next two rows with next color in sequence (CB).
Row 6:Join next color in sc, sc across. (40 sc)
Rows 7-8: ch 1, sc across.
Row 9: Join next color in sequence (CC) in sc, sc across. (40 sc)
Rows 10-13: ch 1, sc across.
Row 14: Join next color in sequence (CD) in sc, sc across. (40 sc)
Rows 15-16: ch 1, sc across.
Row 17: Join next color in sequence (CE) in sc, sc across. (40 sc)
Rows 18-21: ch 1, sc across.
Row 22: Join next color in sequence (CF) in sc, sc across. (40 sc)

LOWER BODY BAG
Rnd 1: Pick up to sc 140 sts around in CA (first in color sequence). Ch 1, join with Sl st to complete round.
Rnd 2: ch 2, hdc 139 sts around. Ch 1, join with Sl st ?to top of beginning ch 2. Fasten off.
Rnd 3: Join next color in sequence (CB) with Sl st in ?any other corner (at another point rather than where just ended), ch 2, hdc 139 sts around. Ch 1, join with Sl st ?top of beginning ch 2. Fasten off.
Rnd 4: Join next color in sequence (CC) with Sl st in any other corner (at another point rather than where just ended), ch 2, hdc 139 sts around. Ch 1, join with Sl st ?to top of beginning ch 2. Fasten off.
Rnd 5: Join next color in sequence (CD) with Sl st in any other corner (at another point rather than where just ended), ch 2, hdc 139 sts around. Ch 1, join with Sl st ?to top of beginning ch 2. Fasten off.
Rnd 6: Join next color in sequence (CE) with Sl st in any other corner (at another point rather than where just ended), ch 2, hdc 139 sts around. Ch 1, join with Sl st ?to top of beginning ch 2. Fasten off.
Rnd 7: Join next color in sequence (CF) with Sl st in any other corner (at another point rather than where just ended), ch 2, hdc 139 sts around. Ch 1, join with Sl st ?to top of beginning ch 2. Fasten off.
Rnd 8: Join next color in sequence (CG) with Sl st in any other corner (at another point rather than where just ended), ch 2, hdc 139 sts around. Ch 1, join with Sl st ?to top of beginning ch 2. Fasten off.
Continue in this manner, changing colors according to COLOR SEQUENCE above. Once you have completed the sequence, repeat starting with Color A (CA). Repeat color sequence for a total of 5 times.
Work one additional round using Color A (CA).
UPPER BODY BAG
Keeping in COLOR SEQUENCE repeat the following ?round in sc as follows:
Join in sc, ch 1, sc 139 sts around, join with Sl st to beginning of round.
Work this row 2 times with CB, 4 times with CC, 2 times ?with CD, 4 times with CE, 2 times with CF, 4 times with CG, and 2 times with CA.
BAG HANDLE
With CB, ch 122.
Sc in 2nd ch from hook, and then in all sts across. (120 sts)
Work 2 more rows in sc (turn, ch 1, sc across).
With CC, sc around both sides of strip just made, adding 2 sts to each end (144 sc). Join with Sl st to complete round. When picking up to sc on foundation ch, sc through front loop only.
With CD, sc around – AT SAME TIME – join handle to center 6 sts of one side of bag – choose one handle end and 1 sc in 1st sc on handle and bag, 1 sc in same sp on handle and in next sc on bag side, 2 sc in next 2 sc on bag and handle, 1 sc in next handle sc and bag sc, 1 sc in same sp on handle and next sc on bag side. Once handle is secured in this manner, sc around remainder of handle with CD. Fasten off.
Attach buckle to other side of bag by working 2 strips in CD as follows:
Ch 12. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and all sts across. (11 sc) Break yarn, leaving 16" tail.
Work 2nd strip as for first. Attach buckle to center of other side of bag with Sl st using 16" tail left after fastening off.
FINISHING
Secure all ends. To stabilize bag bottom, cover a sturdy piece of cardboard or plastic canvas in fabric (optional). Enjoy!
