Cutting Directions
Yellow Fabric
Cut strips as follows:
- Cut one 2 1/2" x 8 1/2" (block 1).
- Cut seven 2 1/2" x 10 1/2" (block 1, 3, 4, 5).
- Cut three 2 1/2" x 6 1/2" (block 2, 4, 5).
- Cut four 2 1/2" x 12 1/2" (block 2, 3).
- Cut four 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" squares (block 3).
Orange Fabric
Cut forty-one 2 1/2" squares (block 1, 2, 3, 4, 5).
Yellow and Orange Fabric
- Lay yellow & orange fabrics right sides together.
- Cut 2 1/2" strips for twenty-four set of 2 1/2" Easy Angle triangles.
Orange and Black Fabric
- Lay orange & black fabrics face to face.
- Cut 2 1/2" strip for four sets of 2 1/2" Easy Angle triangles.
From Black 2 1/2" Strip
- Cut five Tri units (block 2, 3, 5).
- Cut two quarter square triangles* (block 4, 5).
(*Quarter square triangles can be cut from 2 1/2" strips using the Companion Angle).
From Orange 2 1/2" Strip
- Cut five sets Recs units (block 2, 3, 5).
- Cut six Quarter Square triangles* (block 4, 5).
From Rust Fabric
Cut Strips as follows:
- Cut one 2 1/2" x 12 1/2" (block 1).
- Cut three 2 1/2" x 10 1/2" (block 2, 3, 4).
- Cut one 2 1/2" x 14 1/4" (block 3).
Instructions
Sew
Sew together Easy Angle™ triangle sets to form 2 1/2" squares: four black and orange; twenty-four yellow and orange. Follow directions for Easy Angle, matching points and magic angle.
Sew together two quarter square triangle blocks using three orange and one black triangle for each block. Trim block to 2 1/2" being careful to center at intersection of triangles.
Sew all with 1/4" seams being careful not to stretch fabric.
Press seams toward dark fabric.
Assembly
Tip: Read through instructions for assembly and look at picture for each block. Then separate cut pieces into piles for each of the five blocks. Lay out each block before sewing to be sure you have everything you need to begin to assemble.
- Block 1 (12" x 12" finished)
- Yellow 2 1/2" strips: One 8 1/2" and two 10 1/2"
- Orange: Twelve 2 1/2" squares
- Rust: One 2 1/2" x 12 1/2" strip
- Yellow & Orange: Four Easy Angle units
Eyes: Cut two of the orange squares in half.
Add a strip of black fabric 1 1/4" x 2 1/2" to middle of each block. Then trim blocks to 2 1/2" square.
- Block 2 (10" x 14" finished)
- Yellow 2 1/2" strips: One 6 1/2" and two 12 1/2"
- Orange: Eight 2 1/2" squares
- Rust: One 2 1/2" x 10 1/2" strip
- Yellow & Orange: Four Easy Angle units
- Orange & Black: Two Easy Angle units and one Tri-Recs block trimmed to 2 1/2" square
- Block 3 (14" x 14" finished)
- Yellow 2 1/2" strips: One 10 1/2" and two 12 1/2"
- Yellow: Four 2 1/2" squares
- Orange: Eleven 2 1/2" squares
- Rust: One 2 1/2" x 14 1/2" strip
- Yellow & Orange: Eight Easy Angle units
- Orange & Black: Two Tri-Recs units trimmed to 2 1/2" square
- Block 4 (10" x 12" finished)
- Yellow 2 1/2" strips: One 6 1/2" and two 10 1/2"
- Orange: Five 2 1/2" squares
- Rust: One 2 1/2" x 10 1/2" strip
- Yellow & Orange: Four Easy Angle units
- Orange & Black: Two Easy Angle units and one quarter square triangle block trimmed to 2 1/2" square
- Block 5 (10" x 12" finished)
- Yellow 2 1/2" strips: One 6 1/2" and two 10 1/2"
- Orange: Five 2 1/2" squares
- Rust: One 2 1/2" x 10 1/2" strip
- Yellow & Orange: Four Easy Angle units
- Orange & Black: Two Tri-Recs units trimmed to 2 1/2" square and one quarter square triangle block trimmed to 2 1/2" square
Sewing Directions
Sew together blocks by referring to the diagrams for each block. Sew all using a 1/4" seam allowance and squaring block units to 2 1/2". Sew together in rows for easiest assembly.
Next, sew short yellow strip to top of block. Then add long yellow strips to each side of block. Finally, add rust strip (the ground) to bottom of block.
Sew blocks in the same manner. Once you have all five pumpkin blocks assembled, add brown border pieces to sides of each block so all five blocks are now 18" wide.
Attach blocks together by sewing brown 4" x 18 1/2" strips between blocks and to top and bottom of runner.
Once all blocks are sewn together, embellish with rick rack and other trim to add mouths and stems to each pumpkin. Top stitch rick rack as desired around eyes and nose.
To finish quilt, assemble batting and backing under quilt top. Baste or pin together and quilt in desired pattern. Finally bind all layers together.
