assembling the blocks
STEP 1 Using a light C shape and a dark D shape, match and pin the centers and ends. Ease and pin between those points. Sew the shapes together with the C shape on the bottom. Make 16 light units and 48 medium units. Press all the seams toward the dark shapes. At this point the blocks should measure 6-1/2" square.

STEP 2 Use the picture for a guide, or devise your own arrangement, then sew the blocks together in rows. Press the seams in each row in alternating directions.
STEP 3 Sew the rows together, pressing the seams all one direction.
finishing the quilt
STEP 1 Trim the backing and batting 6" larger than the quilt top. Layer with the backing right side up, the batting and the quilt top right side up. Baste, then quilt as desired. Before binding, hand or machine baste (with a walking foot) a scant 1/4" from the edge of the quilt.
STEP 2 Join the binding ends with diagonal seams pressed open. Fold the binding in half, wrong sides together and press to make a double binding. Sew to the quilt with a 1/4" seam, mitering the corners (see General Directions for more instruction on binding). Trim the excess batting and backing, turn the binding to the back side of the quilt and stitch down by hand with matching thread.
