We give instructions for two scarf lengths - short or long, in a sporty knit or posh fabric with a touch of glamour for dressing up, make both lengths for infinite style possibilities.

Short Scarf - finished scarf measures 59" around and 12" deep

Materials Needed:

Cutting Instructions:

  1. Cut one strip of fabric across the full 60" width and 25" wide.

Assembly Instructions

  1. Fold fabric in half, with RIGHT sides of fabric facing each other and matching long cut edges. Pin together.
  2. Beginning 3" from one end, stitch long edge in a ½" seam. Stop stitching 3" from other end.
  3. Press seam flat to blend stitches; press seam open.
  4. Turn scarf RIGHT side out.
  5. Open short ends of scarf.
  6. Place short ends with RIGHT sides together, lining up cut edges. Pin together.
  7. Stitch short edges together in a ½" seam.
  8. Press seam flat to blend stitches; press seam open.
  9. Turn scarf so that seam allowances roll to the inside.
  10. Slip stitch opening closed.

Long Scarf - finished scarf measures 90" around and 12" deep

Materials Needed:

  • 1 and 1/2 yards of 60" wide lightweight knit fabric, such as jersey
  • Other supplies as listed above

Cutting Instructions:

  1. Cut two strips of fabric across the width to 46" long and 25" wide.

Assembly Instructions

  1. With RIGHT sides of fabric facing each other and matching cut edges, pin the strips together along one short end.
  2. Stitch together in a ½" seam, forming one long strip.
  3. Press seam flat to blend stitches; press seam open.
  4. Fold strip in half, with RIGHT sides of fabric facing each other and matching long cut edges. Pin together.
  5. Beginning 3" from one end, stitch long edge in a ½" seam. Stop stitching 3" from other end.
  6. Press seam flat to blend stitches; press seam open.
  7. Turn scarf RIGHT side out.
  8. Open short ends of scarf.
  9. Place short ends with RIGHT sides together, lining up cut edges. Pin together.
  10. Stitch short edges together in a ½" seam.
  11. Press seam flat to blend stitches; press seam open.
  12. Turn scarf so that seam allowances roll to the inside.
  13. Slip stitch opening closed.
