Say hello to my neon confetti dress (aka S9920 )! As soon as I saw this fabric, I knew it was destined to be a dress with a fitted bodice and stand up collar. I didn’t always envision the cut outs, but this Simplicity pattern (I made view C) brought the extra oomph. Fit note: I graded up at the waist (my standard mod), but it turned out far too loose—ended up unpicking everything and taking it in at the sides. If you’re similar, skip grading up at the waist! Construction wise the instructions were a bit muddled. The collar was only referenced once with conflicting instructions. I followed the line drawing and had to recut the collar after realising that it was incorrect. My collar tip: After sewing main and lining of bodice together, baste the neckline. Before installing the zipper, sew the top long edge of the inner and outer collar pieces right sides together. Iron seam allowance up on bottom edge of inside collar piece. Attach raw bottom edge of outer collar to neckline on main fabric side. Install zip. Finish short side edges of collar by folding so inner and outer collar are right sides together, sandwiching the zipper tape in between (don’t open out the ironed up inner collar edge, stitch over it folded!). Snip corner and turn collar right side out. Repeat on other side, and then close the inside collar edge how you prefer (I machine stitched close to the ironed up edge). Despite the detours, I love how this turned out. It fits like a dream—just waiting for some warmer weather (and the right occasion) to show it off!
