A new year always brings that fresh start feeling, and for us sewists, it’s the perfect time to start new projects, dust off old ideas, make space, and maybe even learn a new skill or two!
Whether you’re setting big sewing goals or just hoping to spend a little more time at your machine, the start of the year is full of possibility. This year, we’re inviting you to join us for a year-long series designed to inspire creativity, build confidence, and help you enjoy the process of making, one project at a time.
Here are five simple, low-pressure sewing resolutions to help spark your creativity and set the tone for the year ahead. No pressure, no perfection, just sewing!
1. Sew Your Fabric Stash
Before buying something new, take a look at what you have. As sewists, we’re all guilty of having some sort of fabric stash filled with forgotten favorites. Whether it was being saved for a special occasion or just some extra yardage you weren’t sure that to do with.
Sort through your stash and get ready to start the year with some strong makes (and extra storage room).
2. Try Something You’ve Never Tried Before
A new year is the perfect time to learn a new skill or step outside your comfort zone! Try sewing with a fabric you’ve never worked with, tackle a new technique, or browse a brand or collection you don’t usually shop. You might be surprised what you discover.
3. Sew With a Plan – But keep it fun!
Instead of sewing one-off pieces, try thinking about your makes as a small collection. Choose a few styles you feel confident in and make pieces that can mix and match easily. The goal is to create pieces you’ll actually love wearing.
4. Connect With the Sewing Community
Sewing doesn’t have to be a solo craft. One of the best parts of sewing, is connecting with others. From online sewing groups to local meetups, the sewing community is full of creative inspiration, encouragement and tips and tricks.
We’ll be highlighting projects, sharing inspiration, and inviting you to sew along with us all year long.
5. Make Time for the Joy of Creating
Above all, let sewing be a source of comfort and a creative space where you can relax, experiment, and bring your ideas to life. The process of choosing a pattern, picking fabric, cutting, and stitching is just as meaningful as the finished piece.
Even 30 minutes at your machine counts. Cut today, sew tomorrow and hem next week. Progress is progress!
