Try Something New

A new year is the perfect excuse to shake things up in your sewing room. If you’ve found yourself sticking to the similar styles, patterns, fabrics, or techniques, this resolution is a gentle nudge to try something new, without pressure or perfection.

Trying something unfamiliar doesn’t have to mean diving into the deep end. It can be as simple as sewing a new silhouette, experimenting with a fabric you’ve always admired, or learning a new technique that’s been on your “someday” list.

This resolution is all about curiosity, confidence building, and discovering new favorites along the way.

Trying something new doesn’t mean you have to commit to a complex project right away. Small changes can make a big impact:

• Sew a garment type you’ve never made before. We have hundreds of patterns to choose from – check out our jumpsuits, costumes, or wrap dresses.

• Try a sewing with a new fabric. All our patterns include suggested fabrics right on the back of the envelope, so you know exactly what works best for each design. You can view these recommendations by enlarging the back-of-envelope images for each pattern you’re browsing, or check the pattern description, as some of our newer patterns have their suggested fabrics listed in there.

Take a deeper dive into denim, taffeta, satin, or boucle tweed.

• Experiment with details like color blocking, ruffles, pleats, or statement sleeves.
