How-to: Finish Seam Allowances
This video shows how to finish seam allowances without using a serger or overlocker. First, add a stitch ¼ inch from the raw edge. One option is to use the following machine stitches close to or along that second stitch: zig-zag stitch or overcast stitch. Finish by trimming the excess fabric. A second option is to fold over the edge of the fabric and stitch close to the edge. A great option for beginners is to use pinking shears to trim the excess fabric.
